New Patient FAQ

Here at Breckenridge Dental, we believe that a healthy smile requires a partnership – one between the patient and their dentist. We aim to equip patients of all ages with the information necessary to make educated decisions about their oral health! Take a look at some of our most frequently asked questions:

We recommend visiting the dentist at least twice a year. Your dentist will be able to properly monitor your oral health, and identify any signs of dental issues, like tooth decay, gum disease, loose fillings, and more. Finding and treating these things early can save you time and money in the long run, as more extensive problems are typically harder and more expensive to fix.

Brushing your teeth is important for removing food and bacteria from the surfaces of your teeth and gums, but flossing enables you to remove food particles and plaque in all the places your toothbrush can’t reach. This includes under the gumline and between the groves of your teeth. Without flossing, you put yourself at a higher risk for infection!

Establish good dental hygiene habits with your kids early by making brushing their teeth part of their daily routine. Start early and set an example by brushing your teeth right alongside them! Encourage them to do as you do and buy them fun, colorful toothbrushes that they’ll be more inclined to interact with.

Brushing and flossing daily will remove plaque and harmful bacteria that creates cavities, but staying away from sugary foods and carbonated (and acidic) beverages can also help. Dental cleanings performed by a professional dentist can also help ensure that you remain cavity-free!

X-rays are an important diagnostic tool for dentists to identify dental issues. They can take images and examine the position your teeth, and their roots, with more clarity than the naked eye. X-rays can even identify dental abscesses, signs of oral cancer, and much more.

Fluoride is an important mineral that strengthens tooth enamel, the surface layer of your teeth. Every day, your enamel is being eroded by bacteria and built up again by fluoride, which exists naturally in water and some foods. You can purchase toothpastes that have fluoride in its list of ingredients for added strength and protection.

Like the name suggests, sealants help prevent cavities. Sealants are bonded to the surface of your teeth with a material that cements the sealants in place. If you are especially prone to cavities, dental sealants may be the right solution for you!

CEREC machines are able to create dental restorations, like crowns and bridges, from digital impressions of your teeth. Once the 3D image is rendered, CEREC then designs the restoration and creates it in a matter of hours, custom-made to fit the shape of your teeth.

Holistic dentistry, also called biological dentistry, is dental care that emphasizes your entire wellbeing. This means that treatments using a holistic approach will take your overall health into account, not just your oral health. Treatments in holistic dentistry have adapted in many ways, like metal-free fillings, and root canals that use materials that are more biocompatible with your immune system.
